About Anna
I have been teaching Old Testament or Hebrew Scriptures since 1984. When I was parish minister, I was asked to teach the Old Testament Lay Preacher's course for the UCA Synod of SA. I was thrilled when people found their faith came alive and they felt an excitement about the Old Testament as they studied it.

I have continued to be challenged and excited about the Old Testament as I study each course that I prepare. I learn from the continued exploration of the scriptures and from the interaction with students. At present I am the Lecturer in Old Testament Studies at Parkin-Wesley College

One of my concerns is the lack of Old Testament/Hebrew Scriptures, which are used as the basis of preaching. Part of the difficulty is that often the set reading for the Old Testament is part of a much larger unit of material. We do not tell stories or expect people to listen to long readings and the New Testament with short parables lends itself to people who are more familiar anyway with it than the Old Testament.

People's relationship to God in the Old Testament covers every aspect of life and the human responses are so much part of our lives that it seems such a pity we don't make use of these scriptures as much as we could do.

The Psalms are so real in their feelings as they go through life's journeys. Anger, joy, faith, revenge, sadness, questioning are all in the Psalms. The stories of the Israelite's journey and ongoing relationship with God tells of deceit, lying, fear, laughter, faith, loyalty, reluctance, disobedience that we can identify within the characters at so many levels. God works through these human people as God works through us in our humanity.

I have three sons and live in the hills on the edge of Adelaide and I enjoy gardening and Scottish dancing.
